Navigating the noise through professional content and creative fiction

It’s the end of the world as we know it

In my wisdom and because I can sometimes see into the future, I chose not to stay up and witness what should have been another milestone in American History. Having faith in the power of people, in their humanity and in their ability to overcome dark forces, I chose not to see the sun rise further to the dawn of a new era in American politics.

Eight years ago, an African American won the race for the White House. We were getting somewhere. We were moving forward.

Not without faults within her make-up, Hillary had it in the bag. Now, the United States would have its first female President. ‘The Donald’ would be trumped. More strides.

Surely, there was no room for a brat within the White House. Surely, the “land of the free and the home of the brave” would have more sense than to elect a psychopath. Surely, the people would still be reeling and repulsed at the thought of a pussy grabbing President.

I drifted off to sleep dreaming of a better world. A world in which love, respect, tolerance and goodwill were the drivers. A world in which we shall never forget how some of us were enslaved as a people. A world in which we afford space to the displaced. A world in which men and women are equal and the latter not an object for the lecherous.

I woke up early the next day, made myself a coffee, flipped open my laptop and my heart sank. I swear I stopped breathing for a moment. I took to Facebook and posted, ‘Lost for words. No, I’m not. It’s the end of the world as we know it.’

What happened?

A brat was provided a platform and like all brats that carry their behaviour into adulthood, this one will never grow up.

For those who were fooled into voting for him, Trump does not care about anyone but himself and his inner circle, some of whom he has already begun to appoint as part of his administration. Other than his vitriolic vernacular, he is incapable of connecting, relating, engaging and working with and for his electorate.

Trump has the look of a man without a clue or idea as to how to deliver on the promises he made to the people. Further to realising his shortcomings and the true extent of his responsibilities as the President of the United States, he will naturally look to leave a legacy.

When attention isn’t afforded to the psychopath and the narcissist, they resort to violence.

Whether a wall be built or not, divisions have already been made.

If the world is headed in this direction, I’ll be holding my daughter’s hand a little more firmly than I am already.

In my wisdom and because I can sometimes see into the future, Trump’s tenure will be catastrophic.

I hope I’m as wrong as I was on the 8th November.
